Thermal and barcode labels
Roll labels made to size for direct-thermal and thermal-transfer printers, for shipping, warehouse and product labelling.

Short answer
A thermal label is a self-adhesive label that needs no ink when the printer writes with heat (direct thermal) or is printed with a ribbon (thermal transfer). It is used for shipping, logistics, warehouse and barcoded product labelling; size and roll are chosen to match the printer (for example a 100x150 mm shipping label).
What is a thermal label?
A thermal label is a self-adhesive label on which barcodes, addresses and product information are printed by printers that work with a heat-sensitive coating or ribbon transfer. The roll width, core diameter, label gap and winding direction must match your printer. For blank thermal rolls see also our blank labels page.
What is the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer?
| Direct thermal | Thermal transfer | |
|---|---|---|
| Ribbon | Not needed | Needed |
| Durability | Can fade with heat and light | Long-lasting, abrasion-resistant |
| Typical use | Shipping, short-life labels | Product, warehouse, lot, cold chain |
Common sizes and uses
- 100 x 150 mm: shipping and logistics label
- 100 x 100 mm: warehouse, pallet and product label
- 58 x 40 mm and smaller: barcoded product and shelf labels
Custom sizes are produced too. Just tell us your printer's print width, core diameter and roll outer diameter.
How do you choose the right roll?
- Print width of the printer and the label size
- Core diameter and roll outer diameter
- Winding direction and label gap (gap or black mark)
- Environment of use: cold, moisture, abrasion

Frequently asked.
Is there anything else you would like to know? Write to our sales team or call us and we will get back to you.
What is a thermal label?
A thermal label is a self-adhesive label printed with barcodes and information by a heat-based printer. The direct-thermal type needs no ink or ribbon.
What is the difference between direct thermal and thermal transfer labels?
A direct-thermal label is printed on a heat-sensitive coated surface and needs no ribbon; it can fade over time. Thermal transfer is printed with a ribbon and is more durable.
Which size is common for shipping labels?
100 x 150 mm is common for shipping and logistics labelling. Custom sizes are also made to the requirement of your carrier and printer.
How do I choose the right roll for my printer?
The print width, core diameter, roll outer diameter, winding direction and label gap (gap or black mark) of the printer must match. Share the printer model and we choose the roll.
Can printed thermal labels be made?
Yes. The logo and fixed information can be pre-printed; variable data such as barcodes and addresses are added with your printer.
Are there labels suited to cold chain and damp places?
Thermal-transfer labels and smudge-proof types last longer in damp and cold places. Tell us your conditions and we recommend the right material.
How long does a thermal label stay readable?
It depends on the label type and environment. Direct-thermal labels can fade with light and heat; for labels that are stored for a long time we recommend thermal transfer.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
No, we have no minimum order requirement. We quote for small and regular roll orders.
